National Grid’s Waste Management (WM) contractor completed the record of construction survey of Site features associated with the National Grid Rockaway Park Former MGP Site On-site Remediation Program. The National Grid Project Team conducted a kickoff meeting on July 16, 2012, associated with the next phase of remedial work (e.g., Recovery Well Installation/Development Project), as part of the on-site remedial program. Also, the remaining elements and equipment (e.g., sonic drill rig and support truck and equipment, etc.) were mobilized to the Site by the contractor to commence the recovery well installation project on 7/16/12.
The community air monitoring program (CAMP) has been modified to the address the current work on the site. The 6 fixed-based air monitoring units which were deployed around the perimeter of the site during remedial construction were previously demobilized from the site. In accordance with Section 4.0 of the CAMP work plan and the New York State Department of Health guidelines, tripod-mounted portable air monitoring stations will be utilized during the installation of the recovery wells. The tripod-mounted portable air monitoring stations will be placed upwind and downwind of the daily drilling location. There were no exceedances of the CAMP limits related to the installation of the recovery wells.
For the week of July 23, 2012 through July 27, 2012, the Contractor is scheduled to continue the recovery well installation/development project. Dust and odor suppression activities will be conducted, as necessary. The contractor will perform general maintenance activities and housekeeping activities in conjunction with the well installation operations at the Site, as necessary. In addition, during July 2012 the National Grid Project Team will continue to prepare the Construction Completion Report (CCR) to document the completion of the on-site remedial actions.
