Weekly Update, October 13-17, 2008

A New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Public Meeting was held on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the Scholars Academy (Beach 104 Street). NYSDEC presented the planned remedial construction activities including the reasons for the selected trucking program and the constraints that eliminated barging as a viable alternative.

Posillico, National Grid’s Remediation Contractor, has placed the order for the NAPL Migration Barrier interlocking steel sheet piles. Further, National Grid’s consulting engineers and scientists have placed orders for and are scheduling the installation of the Community Air Monitoring Program (CAMP) equipment and other construction monitoring equipment. It is expected that the steel and other equipment will begin arriving at the site during October.
